Why do the maintenance costs, bed linen rental and tourist taxes not appear immediately in the price?
We rent furnished tourist accommodation and, in accordance with tax legislation and sub-contracted ancillary services, if these services are re-invoiced without profit, must be calculated separately such as the rental of sheets, maintenance and tourist taxes. In the interest of price transparency, they are calculated and included in the final price of direct bookings on our site. However, this is not always the case with booking sites like Booking.com, Expedia, Hotels.com and others.
I made my reservation via an intermediary site and I am charged additional costs, why?
First, as furnished accommodation (we are not a hotel or a guest house), our rates must be displayed, separating the overnight rate and the costs of linen rental, maintenance, participation in energies, tourist taxes, etc. Some platforms are capable of covering the display of these costs, others partially (such as booking.com) and others not at all (such as Expedia.com or hotels.com )
CASE 1 : HOTELS.COM
Hotels.com displays details of these additional charges in Mandatory Fees. No costs are included in the price, namely:
- Maintenance costs (departure cleaning and every 7 days): 25 €
- Daily consumption: € 5 per day
- Bed linen and towels: € 9.40 per person and per week
- Tourist taxes, depending on the accommodation, per night and per adult, € 1.65 in 3* and € 2.48 in 4*.
CASE 2 : EXPEDIA.COM / EGENCIA.COM
Expedia.com displays details of these additional fees in Important Information / Fees. Like Hotels.com, none of the costs are included in the rate, namely:
- Maintenance costs (departure cleaning and every 7 days): 25 €
- Daily consumption: € 5 per day
- Bed linen and towels: € 9.40 peperson and per week
- Tourist taxes, depending on the accommodation, per night and per adult, € 1.65 in 3 * and € 2.48 in 4 *.
CASE 3 : BOOKING.COM
Booking.com includes part of these costs and charges a commission of 21% with the exception of the provision of bed linen and towels. So, in addition to the posted price, an amount of € 14 per double bed or € 7 per single bed per week as well as tourist taxes will be payable in addition.
